Kuruva Island(Kuruva deep)




Kuruva Island is situated on the tributaries of the river Kabani and is a fabulous picnic spot. Its serene silence and wide expanse of the evergreen forest leaves you astonishing. This island is isolated but an array of uncommon species of birds, herbs and orchids are the monarchs of Kuruva Island.

It is located 17 km from Mananthavady, Kuruva Island is a vast island of 950 acres abundantly rich with green forest. The Kabini river splits into two with Kuruva dweep between it and then join again.This two tributaries of the Kabini river – Panamaram and Mananthavady provide options for bamboo rafting and boat rides. The main attraction is a nature walk. There are designated areas and paths in the island for the walk. The island is inhabited and hence an ideal spot for sight seeing. It is very far from the turbulence of city life making it an exotic place for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature. It is closed during monsoon (June to September).

Jain temple Sulthan Batheri



Jain temple Wayanad is an important tourist spot for Jains and multi cultural guests. This is an excellent piece of Jain architecture. It is a must see not only for Jains but also for other tourists and multi cultural guest who are on visit to the heavenly Wayanad. The temple is very small in area, just like any Ganesha temple, we see everywhere in Bangalore or in other places. The main deity is reported to have been that of Mahavir. Tipu Sulthan during his sojourn occupied this temple and stored his armoury in the temple and hence the name Sulthan Batheri.

Jain temple Wayanad is known to be constructed in the thirteenth century. Jain temple Wayanad is also known by the name Ananthanatha swami temple. Ananthanatha swami temple is an excellent spiritual spot. This Jain temple Wayanad is dedicated to the great Jain saint by name Ananthanatha swami. This temple and its surroundings have served as an essential place for commercial developments. It is sad to note that the beautiful pillars of Ananthanatha swami temple are ruined due to several reasons.

Ponmudi



Ponmudi is a breathtaking hill station situated at the southern stretch of Western Ghats. Located within a short driving distance from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, Ponmudi literally means The Golden Peak.The first thing that travellers to Ponmudi notice is the thick tropical forests that carpets the foot of the hill range. Hairpin bends, steep climb and mist covered stretches marks the route to Ponmudi from Kallar, located at the base of the village.Located close to Agasthyar Hills, one of the biggest peaks in Western Ghats, Ponmudi offers excellent trekking and camping opportunities. Trekking through the thick forests one gets to see assortment of mountain flowers, unusual butterflies and small rivulets. However, the incline is steep and the trek rigorous.For those who prefer casual strolls instead of trekking, Ponmudi would leave them impressed. A walk through the tea gardens is a feast for the eye and the senses.Ponmudi is primarily divided into the Upper and the Lower Sanatorium. Kerala government has started an ecotourism project in the Upper Sanatorium area to promote tourism.Plenty of birds, both native and migratory, have made hills of Ponmudi their home. The Ponmudi Hills are also a natural habitat for Nilgiri Tahr. Though they number around a couple of hundreds, it still forms an important habitat for the endangered species.Sightseeing in and around Ponmudi includes Ponmudi Waterfalls, the Deer Park, River Kallar, Meenmutty Falls and Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary among others. Apart from sightseeing, Ponmudi is also famous for Ayurvedic medical treatments.

Pookkot Lake



A natural fresh water lake of about eight hectares surrounded by evergreen forest and rolling hills of Sugandhagiri. It's not just a natural fresh water lake on the Western Ghats. The Pookkot Lake is the only one of its kind in Kerala. A fresh water aquarium with large variety of fish is an added attraction. Boating facilities, Children's Park and shopping centre for handicrafts and spices of Wynad are arranged by District Tourism Promotion Council.

Wayanad lies at an altitude varying from 700 - 2100 metres above the sea level. The district has the highest number of tribal settlements in Kerala. The hill ranges of Vythiri taluk (taluk is a sub division of a district), through which the road from Kozhikode ascends the Wayanad plateau over the mind boggling bends and ridges, are the highest locations of Wayanad district.

Best Season: September To May
