Mamburam Maqam

Mamburam Maqam (Shrine of Mamburam Thangal) Mamburam, Tirurangadi, Mamburam is located 26 kms from Tirur and on the northern bank of Kadalundi river locally known as Panampuzha. The place is renowned for Makham i.e. shrine. This Makham was built over the grave of Sayyid Hussain Ibn Alabi Jiffer Thangal popularly known as Mamburam Thangal, reached Kerala from Thareem in Yemen two centuries ago.He staunchly opposed the social disparities of that time. History honours him not only as a spiritual leader of Malabar but also as a social reformer and freedom fighter. Mamburam Makham is undoubtedly today one of the busiest Muslim pilgrim centres in South India.He died in the month of Shaban in the Hijira year 1169. It is an important pilgrim centre for Mulsims. The Mamburam Nercha, held in memory of Mamburam Thangal near this tomb, takes place once in a year in the month of Muharram, lasting for a week, will have religious speeches and sessions of prayers. A mass food distribution will mark the finale of the Uroos.

Ponnani Juma Masjid

Juma Masjid in Ponnani is an old mosque located in Malappuram district. The Masjid is also recognised as the ‘Makkah of Kerala Muslims’ and it was set up in the year  1510 by Zainudhin Makhdum, a Muslim spiritual leader.  This mosque was once a centre of Islamic education for the  Muslim community in Kerala. As per the records of William (a historian) Logan in Malabar Manual, Juma Masjid was built in 925 Hijrah.

The architect of this mosque was a Hindu artisan who was a close friend of Makhdum and was known as Ashaari. Later he was converted to Islam and came to be known as Ashaari Thangal. The grave of Makhdum as well as the Ashari is at this place. This mosque was a centre of Islamic education for the Muslims in Kerala.

Pazhayangadi masjid(Kondotty mosque)

The 500 year old Pazhayangadi Mosque (Kondotty mosque), in north Kerala is one of the prominent pilgrim centre of the Muslim community in Kerala. Pazhayangadi Mosque is located 18 km east of Manjeri on the way to Malappuram.Pazhayangadi mosque is situated at Kondotty on the Malappuram - Kozhikode route. This mosque is associated with the Muslim Saint Muhammed Shah, who is popularly known as Kondotty Thangal. The 'Valia Nercha' festival at this mosque is celebrated for three days in February-March and is an important festival which draws a flock devotees.The best time to visit the Pazhayangadi Mosque is during the colorful extravaganza of the Valiya Nercha, spread over a span of three days. This brings in its wake exotic festivities that is ineluctable. The visitors flock to the gothic age monument to savor the vibrant history of Kerala.

Thunchan Parambu

Thunchan Parambu is Located 32 kms from Malappuram at Tirur is the hallowed Thunchan Parambu, the birthplace of Thunchath Ezhuthachan, the father of Malayalam language. This stretch of ground has been carefully preserved for posterity with items like the iron stylus used by the scholar and literary giant kept on display. The holy day of Vijayadasami witnesses children being brought here to be initiated into the world of education and knowledge The ancient kanjira tree (Nux vomica) under which he is supposed to have imparted knowledge to his beloved disciples and composed his poems is one of the treasured exhibits here. The memorial also houses a granite Saraswathi Mandapam along with a library of rare manuscripts.
